Florian Naroska

Florian Naroska (born April 16, 1982 in Mühlacker ) is a German water polo player and coach.

Player career

He started his career at SV Bietigheim-Bissingen as a swimmer and switched to water polo relatively late at the age of 16 or 17.

Club career

After a few years with his home club, Naroska went to SV Ludwigsburg 08, with whom he played in the 2nd Bundesliga. There he drew attention to himself with strong performances and secured the title of second division top scorer in 2003 and 2004.

SV Cannstatt

For the 2004/2005 season he moved to SV Cannstatt and played there for two years in the German Water Polo League . In the 2005/06 season Naroska won his first German championship title . Then the Cannstatter had to withdraw their Bundesliga team for financial reasons despite winning the title and from then on played in the Baden-Württemberg Oberliga.

SSV Esslingen

After SV Cannstatt withdrew, almost the entire Cannstatt master team moved with Naroska to the neighboring club and promoted SSV Esslingen . After fourth place in the 2006/07 season , Naroska, as captain, led the team to third place in the German championship in the 2007/08 season .

Water lovers Spandau 04

From 2008 to 2012 Naroska played for the German record champions Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 . Naroska celebrated the German championship there every year: 2009 , 2010 , 2011 and 2012 . However, the goal of winning an international title was missed.

Return to SV Cannstatt

In the summer of 2012 Naroska returned to her Swabian homeland for three years at SV Cannstatt, which had meanwhile been promoted back to the German Water Polo League. After fourth place in the 2012/13 season and sixth place in the 2013/14 season , they had to relegate to Group B after the 2014/15 season . Then Naroska left the club.

UWA Torpedoes Perth

In October 2015, Naroska and his wife immigrated to Australia. There he signed a contract with UWA Torpedoes in Perth. In the first year of 2016, the Australian championship was surprisingly won. At the end of the 2017 season, they finished fourth and Naroska ended his playing career.

National team career

Shortly after his move to SV Cannstatt, Naroska was nominated for the national team for the first time in 2004 by national coach Hagen Stamm . As a national player, he took part in several World and European Championships as well as the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . Together with the national team was Naroska World Cup Ninth , 2005 in Montreal , EM roller 2006 in Belgrade , World Cup rollercoaster 2007 Melbourne , EM-sixth in 2008 in Malaga , WM-sixth in 2009 in Rome , EM-sixth in 2010 in Zagreb and EM Fifth in 2012 in Eindhoven. For the 2011 World Cup in Shanghai , he had to cancel due to a shoulder injury.

After missing qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , Naroska announced his retirement from the national team after 223 international matches.

Coaching career

After the end of his playing career in 2017, Naroska took over the coaching position at UWA Torpedoes in Perth for the 2018 season. At the same time he continues to play in a regional league in Perth.

Private

Naroska grew up in Vaihingen an der Enz and is a trained carpenter .

He was part of the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr for almost ten years and was thus able to practice water polo as a professional in Germany. Parallel to his second time at SV Cannstatt, he completed retraining to become a carpenter in Stuttgart-Hedelfingen from 2012 .

On August 13, 2011, Naroska married his wife Emilie, daughter of the former Swiss national ice hockey player Bernhard “Beni” Neininger, at Kaltenstein Castle in Vaihingen / Enz.

He and his wife have lived in Perth since October 2015 . Since then, Naroska has worked full-time as a carpenter in addition to water polo.
