Jésus le Christ

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jésus le Christ is one of the Taizé Community written hymn . Above all, the German-language version "Christ, your light" is known in German-speaking countries.

text

French original version:

Jésus le Christ, lumière intérieure,
ne laisse pas mes ténèbres me parler.
Jésus le Christ, lumière intérieure,
donne-moi d'accueillir ton amour.

German singable translation:

Christ, your light transfigures our shadows,
do not allow the darkness to speak to us.
Christ, your light, shines on earth
and you tell us: You too are the light.

The literal translation of the French text is: “Jesus Christ, inner light, do not let my darkness speak to me. Jesus Christ, inner light, give me (the ability) to receive your love. ”While the talk of“ inner light ”comes from the tradition of mysticism , the German song translation has a stronger biblical reference. It connects the self-statement of Jesus “I am the light of the world” ( Jn 8,12  EU ) with his promise to the disciples “You are the light of the world” ( Mt 5,14  EU ).

The German version is sung especially in weeks when many German-speaking young people are guests in Taizé. Many German-speaking choirs have also adopted the song in their repertoire.
