Jóhann Magnús Bjarnason

Jóhann Magnús Bjarnason (born May 24, 1866 in Meðalnes, Norður-Múlasýsla , † September 8, 1945 in Elfros , Canada ) was an Icelandic writer .

Life

Jóhann Magnús was the son of western Icelandic farmers. In 1875 the family emigrated to Canada, where they settled in Nova Scotia and later in New Iceland , Manitoba . After he had made his way through as a casual worker, Jóhann Magnús became a teacher in 1889. He taught the children of Icelandic immigrants until 1922, after which he lived in seclusion in Elfros, Saskatchewan until his death .

Jóhann Magnús also wrote poems , short stories and dramas , but the most important works are his novels . The most important theme in his poetry is emigration. His collected works appeared in six volumes from 1942 to 1973.
