Jan Józef Gozdawa Naronowicz-Naroński (* 1610 probably in Kėdainiai ; † 1678 in Königsberg , East Prussia ) was a Polish builder , mathematician and engineer , geodist and cartographer in the Prussian service.

Life

Naronowicz-Naroński attended the Calvinist high school in Kėdainiai and probably also studied in Holland . Since 1644 he was in the service of Prince Janusz Radziwiłł (1612–1655) and designed until 1655 plans for his cities in Belarus and Lithuania . In 1650 he wrote his work The art of mathematical sciences , related to optics, geometry and military fortifications. He became an important builder of fortifications.

After Janusz Radziwill's death, Naronowicz-Naroński had to emigrate as an anti-Trinitarian with his cousin Bogusław Radziwiłł (1620–1669) to the Duchy of Prussia, where Bogusław Radziwiłł was governor of Prussia in the service of the Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm of Brandenburg from 1657 . Naronowicz-Naroński also placed himself in the service of the Great Elector and became his surveyor.

On behalf of the Elector, he created a canal plan for the Masurian Lake District, among other things , which was only implemented in several construction phases from 1765 to 1849. Prassen Castle ( Rastenburg district , East Prussia) (construction period 1610–1620) was also rebuilt by him in the period 1667/1668.
