Józef Serafin (organist)

Józef Serafin (born May 1, 1944 in Cracow ) is a Polish organist and music teacher.

Serafin studied at the Musikhochschule in his hometown with Bronisław Rutkowski and Jan Jargoń until 1968 and continued his education 1970–1972 at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Anton Heiller . He won first prizes at the international organ competitions in Warsaw (1967), Nuremberg (1972) and Rumia (2003) and was second prize winner at the organ competition in Castellana Grotte, Italy.

He gave concerts in almost all European countries, in the USA and Japan and made numerous CD, radio and television recordings. He was a juror at organ competitions in Nuremberg, Prague, Brno, Gdansk, Manchester and Beauvais and has been the artistic director of the organ and chamber music festival in Kamień Pomorski since 1979 .

Serafin is professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and since 1997 head of the organ department at the Kraków Music Academy . He also worked as a lecturer at universities in Japan, Canada and the USA.
