Lethal is an American power and progressive metal band from Hebron , Kentucky that was formed in 1982, disbanded in 1996, and reunited in 2006.

history

The band was founded in 1982 by the brothers Eric (electric guitar) and Glen Cook (electric bass). In 1984 singer Tom Mallicoat joined the cast. After the line-up was completed in 1986 by guitarist Dell Hull and drummer Adrian Powers, the first demo, The Arrival , followed in 1987 , for which there were over 2000 interested parties. After the band was not able to get a contract through the demo, the debut album Programmed followed in 1990 on the Metal Blade Records label . Jerry Hartman was the new drummer on the album, but he had been a well-established drummer for almost two years. The debut was produced by James Palace . Production of a music video has also begun for the song Killing Machine . However, since MTV found that the title was not suitable for media, the recordings were canceled. Instead, a video was created for the song Immune . The single for the radio stations was still Killing Machine . Contrary to expectations, the album was not very successful, so the band lost their contract. After David McElfresh, who finally replaced Hull, who had moved to California and traveled to rehearsals, in the early summer of 1992, the band was followed by the EP Your Favorite God via Bullet Proof Records in 1995 . After the release of the album Poison Seed in 1996 via Massacre Records , the band broke up shortly afterwards.

The band has been active again since June 2006. In 2007 the band played in Chicago at the Powerfest. In the same year the band was also represented on the Keep It True . In 2012 Eric Cook succumbed to cancer . The Keep It True 2014 is intended as a tribute and farewell show for the band.

style

The group cites artists such as Judas Priest , Iron Maiden and Rush as their influences. The band played on their debut album Programmed Progressive Power Metal, comparable to the works of Queensrÿche or Crimson Glory . Singer Tom Mallicoat in particular is reminiscent of Geoff Tate . The lyrics are often of a political nature. The band continued this style on their EP Your Favorite God . On Poison Seed , the band moved further away from the Queensrÿche style and was now more comparable to groups like Alice in Chains , Nevermore and Sanctuary .
