József Somogyi (geodesy)

József Somogyi (born November 9, 1931 in Sopron ) is a Hungarian geodesist and university lecturer for photogrammetry .

In the 1950s he was trained as a surveyor at the Technical Faculty of Sopron (Ödenburg) . After a year of research at the National Research Council in Ottawa, Canada , Somogyi received his doctorate in 1968 from the Technical University of Budapest . and joined the GGRI , the West Hungarian Academy Institute for Geodesy and Geophysics. In 1977 the Hungarian Academy of Sciences named József Somogyi as a candidate (Doctor Scientiae), a few years later the Austrian Geodetic Commission (ÖGK) elected him as a corresponding member.

Somogyi, who is still working as a researcher in Sopron, lists the following areas of interest on the GGRI website: measurement technology, analytical photogrammetry, remote sensing , data processing, applied statistics. Digital image processing and geographic information systems. He has written around 90 scientific publications (half of them in English and German) and has edited a book and two proceedings .
