Yeah look

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jö schau is a song by the Austrian songwriter Georg Danzer (1946–2007) from 1975 and one of the first in Austropop . In addition, Danzer's long-playing record is entitled Jö schau .

Emergence

With the Jö schau , Danzer achieved his commercial breakthrough. The previously only insiders known musician was shot to fame. "Within two weeks, the whole of Austria knew the Danzer Schurl", is how Danzer himself describes the song's rapid success. The Jö schau , written in the Viennese dialect , was also decisive for the establishment of the dialect wave in Austropop of the 1970s, which had already started with A Glock'n ( Marianne Mendt ; 1971) or Da Hofa ( Wolfgang Ambros , text: Joesi Prokopetz ; 1972) was initiated.

The song is ostensibly about a nudist or exhibitionist who shows up one afternoon in the Viennese Café Hawelka . In the secondary meaning of the Viennese dialect, “the naked” (there also “Nockabazl”) is also an uneducated or ignorant person with a simple disposition who appears among the regulars (in the Hawelka traditionally writers , musicians, intellectuals when the song was written ); see also Alfred Polgar's theory of " Café Central ": "There are Central guests who go mentally naked without their childish, innocent nakedness having to fear misinterpretation as shameless."

The stanzas describe the excitement of the landlady Josefine Hawelka ("He should sneak up, but fast!") And the reactions of the guests, which range between approval ("Go fesch! Finally ana without laundry!") And disgust commuting to (mental) nudity. The chorus is also critical of the speedster: "Jö look, so a pig, jössas na - what is' a Nackerta doing in Hawelka?" But after the naked person introduced himself as the prominent “most elegant runabout in Vienna”, he was allowed to stay in the restaurant. Openness wins against the " bourgeois morality " or even in obscurity connotations : the intellectuals to the journeyman ends, by their presence in the bohemian cafe Hawelka himself performing celebrities are "nackert". The model for the song was the artist Jaroslav Marcel Houf , who was born in 1951 in former Czechoslovakia and lives in Vienna , who was transferred to psychiatric treatment as a result of this performance.

Jö schau was Danzer's first and only number one hit. The single with the B-side Ihr kents mi entered the Austrian charts at number 8 on October 15, 1975 and stayed there for 20 weeks. From December 15, 1975, the song reached number 1 on the charts and stayed at the top for eight weeks. In 1976 Danzer received the gold record for the single . A music video was also shot for the single, which was shot in Café Hawelka . The café owners Josefine and Leopold Hawelka , who are also mentioned in the lyrics, play along.

The sometimes crude language of the song and the abandonment of “philistine morality” in the context of the secret connotation made Jö schau popular with young people - but not only with them - from the start.

In 2004, Jö schau was voted one of the ten best Austropop songs in history on the ORF show Austro Pop Show .
