The Jökulsá á Breiðamerkursandi is a 500 m long river in southeast Iceland . It is the outflow from the Jökulsárlón glacial lake .
The Jökulsá á Breiðamerkursandi is crossed by the ring road on a 108 m long bridge, which was built from 1966 to 1967. This replaced a ferry that had been there since 1932. On the river, icebergs often drift from the glacier lagoon to the beach of Breiðamerkursandurs. In order to prevent the runoff of too large icebergs and thus also to secure the foundations of the bridge, dams were poured into the river, which were reinforced again in June 2017.
