Gerd Stieler (born June 18, 1943 , † 1997 ) was a German football player. From 1967 to 1973 he played for FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

At the age of 18, Gerd Stieler played his first games in the second-rate GDR league . Coming from the offspring of the company sports association (BSG) Turbine Waldersee , he had joined the GDR league team Motor Dessau at the beginning of the 1961/62 season . The season served to switch GDR football back to the summer-spring rhythm after five years of the calendar season. In addition, 39 point games had to be played in the GDR league, of which newcomer Stieler has already completed 20 and recommended himself as a goal scorer with seven goals. Since Motor Dessau was determined to be relegated at the end of the season, the team had to compete in the district league in 1962/63 , but managed to get promoted again immediately. From the 1963/64 season on, 30 games were played in the GDR league. Stieler played three more seasons in the GDR league in Dessau and was used in 77 of the 90 point games played. He developed into one of the most accurate players. In 1964 and 1966 he was Dessau's top scorer with 13 (together with Günter Sens) and 12 goals respectively.

For the 1966/67 season, Stieler moved to FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, who had previously been relegated from the GDR league. With his use in all 30 league games and eleven goals, Stieler played a significant role in the immediate resurgence. In the GDR top league, Stieler found his way in his first season and was able to maintain his position as a regular in the Erfurt team. In the season 1967/68 he was used in all 26 league games and was again the best shooter of his team with eleven goals. His good performance was rewarded in early 1968 when he was appointed to the GDR's national soccer team , which played a series of friendly matches against South American clubs in January. Stieler came on when he was substituted on in the 4-2 win over Racing Buenos Aires in the 61st minute, after which there were no further selection games. Stieler played with the FC Rot-Weiß until 1971 in the league, where he was missing in only two games. In 1971 Erfurt rose again from the league, but rose again immediately. Gerd Stieler as team captain was involved with 19 out of 20 point games and seven promotion games with a total of 17 goals. Although Stieler's end of his competitive sports career was published in the previews for the 1972/73 league season, he still made eight league appearances in the second half of the season.

It was not until the 1973/74 season that he moved to the third-rate district division TSG Ruhla at the age of 30 and immediately rose to the GDR league with the team. His 21 stakes (out of 22) and four goals were not enough to keep them up. Stieler then moved again and joined the GDR league club Zentronik Sömmerda . There, too, he became a key player, because in his three Sömmerda GDR league seasons he completed 56 of 66 point games. He scored 38 goals, with which he was the team's top scorer every season. In the summer of 1978 he finally ended his career in higher-class football after completing 110 league games with 30 goals and 223 GDR league games with 109 goals. At the ZSG Schlotheim he was still active as a recreational footballer for some time and was promoted to the fourth-class district class with her in 1981. He later worked as a junior coach in the Erfurt district training center and at FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt.
