Jörg Ernert
Jörg Ernert (* 1974 in Leipzig ) is a German artist.
Career
From 1991 to 1996 he studied at the Leipzig College of Graphics and Book Art with Wolfram Ebersbach and Neo Rauch, among others. He received his diploma with distinction in the painting and graphics class under Sighard Gille, from which he also completed postgraduate studies as a master class student from 1998 to 2001. Ernert interrupted his training in Leipzig for a free study visit to New York City in 1996. In 2004 he was given a teaching position at the HBG Leipzig, followed in 2012 by the professorship for painting, drawing and composition, also at the HBG. In 2008 he was also a lecturer at the Leipzig Summer Academy.

Ernert's preferred interest is the question of how far abstraction can go if the object is to remain recognizable, how reduction enriches the picture. His series “Climbing Hall” and “Chinatown” answer this in depth with regard to the genre of interior painting. The "afterimages" bring up the topic even more comprehensively. They analyze a phenomenon that already fascinated Rubens, Rembrandt or Tizian: Works of art are most vivid when they only provide the eye with an optical framework that is completed by memory - and not only with visual memories, but also with smell, taste, Sensations and memories of all kinds.
