Jörn Röver (born September 17, 1965 in Düsseldorf ) is a German producer and author of nature films for television and cinema, managing director of Doclights GmbH and operator of the video-on-demand platform Tierwelt live .

Life

Röver grew up in Düsseldorf, Cologne and Neuss. He studied biology at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen and at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. After completing his diploma (majoring in zoology and ecology), he completed the 32nd compact class at the German School of Journalism (DJS) in Munich. In addition to his training, he wrote articles for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the Stuttgarter Zeitung. From 1995 to 2001 he worked at ZDF in Mainz as an author and director for the programs “Praxis - Das Gesundheitsmagazin”, “Aktion Mensch” and “tele zoo”. For his tele zoo contribution "Grube Messel" he received the Hans-Hass-Prize of the Biovision Festival in Düsseldorf. From 1997 he was a permanent author and editor for “tele zoo” (moderation: Nina Ruge) and the primetime animal film series Naturzeit. During this time he supervised and edited over 100 animal films. In 2000 his production "Moa - The Secret of the Giant Birds" (script and direction) and "Die Nacht der Tierfilmer" (book and moderation) ran. Since 1998 he has also created German versions for the ZDF series “Wonderful World” (moderation: Hanns Joachim Friedrichs). In 2001 Jörn Röver took over the management of the NDR Naturfilm in the Hamburg studio and produced the films for the "Tierwelten" series on the NDR and the expeditions into the animal kingdom for Das Erste. In 2010 he became managing director of the newly founded Doclights GmbH. In addition to the TV business, Jörn Röver also develops nature films for the cinema - as a producer and sometimes as an author. These include u. a. "Knut and his friends", "Serengeti", "Russia", "The green wonder - our forest" and "The North Sea - our sea".

2013–2015 Jörn Röver was the initiator and publisher of the nature magazine “Tierwelt live” in the publishing house Inspiring Network. Since 2015 he has been responsible for a video app for Smart TV under the same brand. He has been the publisher of the online VoD platform Tierwelt live since September 2017. Jörn Röver lives in Hamburg, is married and has two children.

In 2016, Röver was a jury member at the Wildscreen Festival, an international festival that honors the best animal and nature films with the Panda Award.

Awards (selection)

The films for which Jörn Röver was responsible have received a total of over 300 prizes at national and international film festivals, including the Panda Award at the Wildscreen Festival in Bristol (2008, 2010 and 2012) and at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival in the USA ( 2009, 2011 and 2015). In 2017, the three-part series "Wild New Zealand" he produced was nominated for the German Camera Prize and the American Emmy Award, among others.
