JP Mueller

Jørgen Peter Müller (born October 7, 1866 in Adserbølle on Alsen , † November 17, 1938 in Aarhus ) was a Danish athlete and gymnastics teacher . In Germany his name was mostly abbreviated with JP Müller or Germanized with Johann Peder Müller or Johann Peder Mueller .

From 1904 on, he won 134 titles in almost every sport. That same year he wrote Mein System , the first in a series of gymnastics textbooks that quickly became bestsellers . My system was translated into 24 languages and the German translation alone had a print run of 400,000 copies by 1925. Müller continued this success with books such as Mein System für Frauen and Mein System für Kinder . For a long time , müllern was synonymous with doing gymnastics in Germany . He was close to the nudist movement and published a. a. My open-air book.

The system he developed did not require any technical aids and could be implemented by anyone without spending a great deal of time. The various exercises could be carried out in the apartment, although Müller recommended the outdoor version - for example in front of the open window or outside.

He was a staunch opponent of bodybuilding , which was also emerging in his time , as it was propagated primarily by Eugen Sandow . Müller's system, on the other hand, was less aimed at muscle strength and muscle formation than more at general fitness and mobility. It was intended - in an adapted form - for all ages. All organs of the body, including the skin , should be strengthened and supplied with blood through the exercises, for which he provided different levels of requirement. Müller was proud that doctors also recommended his "system" and that the Italian translation was worked out by doctors. It fits that he attached great importance to physical hygiene , which he also made popular starting with Hygienische Winke (1907).

In addition, Müller was one of the first modern sports journalists. The fact that he often used the pseudonym " Apoxyomenos " to mark his contributions , liked to put his own body in the foreground in his publications and referred to his awards as the "most beautiful person" gave rise to many mocking remarks.

1919 Müller was the Danish King Christian X with the Dannebrog excellent.

Although some of the exercises designed by Müller are out of date today, he can still be seen as one of the founders of the modern fitness movement.
