Hostouň old Jewish cemetery

history

There were Jews in Hostouň since the 16th century. Especially in the 18th and 19th centuries there was an important Jewish community in Hostouň. The Jewish community of Hostouň had a synagogue , a rabbi , a kosher slaughterhouse and a school. In 1792 the Prague rabbi Ezekiel Landau mentioned a rabbi Natanael von Hostouň. In 1852 there were 64 Jewish families in Hostau. The Jewish community had a cemetery one kilometer southwest of Hostouň.

When this became too small, a new Jewish cemetery was added in 1850, which was a little closer to the village.

At the end of the 19th century, many Jewish families moved from Hostouň to the larger towns of Kladno , Slaný and Prague. The last burial in the new Jewish cemetery took place in 1932. The synagogue was partially demolished after 1950 and converted into a residential building.
