Jewish community of Brtnice
The Jewish community in Brtnice (German Pirnitz ), a Czech town in Okres Jihlava in the Vysočina region , was established in the 15th century.
history
There is said to have been a Jewish community in Pirnitz since the 15th century . The cemetery, built after 1550, bears witness to this.
In the 18th century, the local Jews lived separately from the Christian population in their own quarter with around 45 houses.
The synagogue was also in the ghetto . The building is said to date from the middle of the 17th century. In the 1880s the synagogue was expanded and a women's gallery was built.
The Jewish school in Pirnitz was closed in 1918. The children now attended the Czech school. The religion and German lessons were given by a private teacher.
