Třešť Jewish community
The Jewish community in Třešť (German Triesch ), a Czech town in the Okres Jihlava of the Vysočina region , was established in the 15th century.
history
In the 15th century , Jews expelled from Iglau found a new place of residence in Triesch (see also: Jihlava Jewish Community # History ).
No information is available on the Jews in Triesch for the 16th century. This did not start again until the second half of the 17th century. At that time, the local Jewish families lived mainly from the wool and cloth trade and from serving spirits . Since then, the ghetto has formed part of the city center, which was surrounded by a low wall. Three gates led into the Christian residential area.
At the time of Joseph II there were around 120 Jewish families living in Triesch. The Jewish community peaked in numbers in the first half of the 19th century.
In mid-May 1942, the last Jewish residents of the city were deported to the extermination camps by the German occupiers during World War II .
