Domažlice Jewish community
The Jewish community in Domažlice (German Taus ), a town in the Okres Domažlice district in the Czech Republic , existed until 1941.
history
There were three Jewish families in Domažlice in the 14th century. They had a cemetery near the Havlovice district, southwest of Domažlice, where there is now an orchard. Since 1541 Jews was staying in Domažlice by a privilege of King Ferdinand I. denied. Jews were only able to resettle in Domažlice under Joseph II .
In the 1860s, several Jewish families from the area moved to Domažlice, which initially formed a religious community. In 1873 an independent Jewish religious community with a prayer hall, elementary school and cemetery was established in Domažlice .
In 1940 there was a first arrest among the Tauser Jews by the fascist German occupiers . In 1942 the remaining Jewish residents of Domažlice were deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp and from there to the extermination camps in occupied Poland .
After the end of the Second World War, 20 Jews returned to Domažlice, but they did not establish a Jewish community.

synagogue
The synagogue in Domažlice was built in the 1880s. A farm building was converted for this purpose. The neighboring baroque house was the seat of the rabbinate . The buildings were sold in 1938 and destroyed between 1939 and 1940.
The synagogue was on the Benešova corner of Komenského . Today (2014) there is a newly built house, marked with the number 12.
Jewish Cemetery
Around 1500 there was a Jewish cemetery southeast of Domažlice near Havlovice.
The Jewish cemetery , which is still in use and is still in use today (2014), has been located on the northern outskirts of Domažlice at ulice Prokopa Velikého ( Prokop-the-Great-Street ) since 1890 .
