Kardašova Řečice Jewish community
The Jewish community in Kardašova Řečice (German Kardasch Retschitz ), a Czech town in Okres Jindřichův Hradec in the South Bohemian region , was established in the 15th century.
history
Jews are said to have lived in Ort at the beginning of the 15th century, but their stay was probably not of long duration.
The Jewish families residing in Kardasch-Retschitz had their own residential area. Their houses were identified by Roman numerals until 1920.
The wooden synagogue , which was built in 1708 and replaced a prayer house mentioned in 1650, stood between their houses .
Major fires destroyed the entire Jewish quarter in 1840 and 1863. The synagogue was completely destroyed in the fire of 1863. A year later the Jewish community built a new building.
The Jews who remained in the village were deported by the German occupiers via Theresienstadt to the extermination camps in spring 1942 and murdered there.
The synagogue building was demolished in the late 1950s.
