Jewish community of Rimbach (Lower Franconia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jewish community in Rimbach was an Israelite religious community in what is now the Volkach district of Rimbach in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen . The parish existed between 1812 and 1881.

history

The population register of Rimbach in 1690 does not name any Jews among the inhabitants of the village. In 1812, Jewish families are recorded in the place. These were the families Schmul Nathan, Majer Samuel, Pfeiffer Nathan, Samson Simon, Hirsch Josef and Schmul Samuel. The Jews were probably admitted to Rimbach in 1811. The matriculation places , however, set their number at only nine families.

First, the school-age, Jewish children attended religious education in nearby Frankenwinheim . The Frankenwinheim teacher was also responsible for the ritual slaughter in Rimbach. In the middle of the 19th century, the religious communities of Rimbach, Järkendorf and Lülsfeld tried to set up their own school district. On October 5, 1855, this request was granted. The religion teacher Abraham Jung from Brünnau then moved to Lülsfeld.

Religious instruction was held two days a week in Järkendorf, Lülsfeld and Rimbach. However, the Rimbachers soon planned to set up their own independent school. The Rimbach population, however, opposed this project. After the Jews were granted civil rights, many moved to larger cities. The last Jewish family moved to Frankfurt am Main in 1881 .

Community development

From 1839, the religious community was assigned to the Bavarian district rabbinate Niederwerrn , which was converted into the district rabbinate Schweinfurt from 1864 .
