The Jewish cemetery in Holešov (German Holleschau ), a town in Okres Kroměříž in the Czech Republic , was probably built in the 15th century. The Jewish cemetery on the edge of the former ghetto has been a protected cultural monument since 1958 .

history

One of the largest Jewish communities in Moravia once existed in the town of Holešov . The origins of the cemetery go back to the middle of the 15th century. Today more than 1500 tombstones ( Mazewot ) are preserved in the cemetery of 8190 m² .

The grave of the rabbi Sabbatai ben Meir ha-Kohen (1621–1662), known as Schach, whose name is also given to the synagogue in Holešov, is frequently visited by visitors from all over the world.

In the mourning hall, which was built in 1903, a plaque commemorates the victims of the Holocaust .
