The Jewish cemetery is located in the East Westphalian city of Minden in the Minden-Lübbecke district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is located in the southern part of the city and belongs to the cemetery administration of the city of Minden. The cemetery is managed by the Jewish community of Minden.

history

Until the plague pogrom on July 21, 1350, there was a first burial site for members of the Jewish community in Minden, the Jewish cemetery in front of the Simeon Gate. He has disappeared from the cityscape. After the cemetery in front of the Simeon Gate, which was probably occupied until the beginning of the 14th century, there were two other Jewish cemeteries from the 18th century. A larger cemetery was to the northwest and a smaller one to the northeast of the Marientore. The Jewish community in Minden was able to bury their dead here until around 1820. After the Jewish cemeteries of Minden had to give way to the expansion of the city fortifications , subsequent burials were only carried out in the Jewish cemetery in Hausberge . Both burials from the Jewish community in Hausberge and from Minden were carried out here. The grave fields were spatially separated from each other. In 1895 the Jewish community in Minden purchased a 5000 square meter property. The Minden community thus had its own cemetery again, the cemetery on Erikaweg, which is still in use today. There are over 100 tombstones ( mazewot ) here.
