history

The Jewish cemetery in Bunde

The local Jewish community was one of the youngest and smallest in East Frisia . She buried her dead first in the cemetery in Smarlingen near Weener , and later in the Jewish cemetery in Neuschanz . In 1874 the local community refused to use it any further. Thereupon the community applied to the Flecken Bunde to establish its own cemetery. The stain approved the application and so on November 25th of that year the Jewish community acquired a 4.07  ares plot for 250 Reichstaler . Half of this sum was raised by the community itself. The rest was paid for with public funds. The community used this cemetery until the early 1930s. The last burial took place there in 1932. The cemetery was desecrated during the National Socialist era .

After the end of World War II , the cemetery was cleared for the first time in 1956. Further repairs were carried out in 1970 and 1979. About 30 tombstones have been preserved .
