The Jewish cemetery in Dormagen , a town in the Rhine district of Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia , was established in the mid-19th century. The Jewish cemetery on Krefelder Straße, at the level of the old Augustinian hospital, is a protected architectural monument .

history

In the 19th century, Dormagen formed a synagogue community together with Zons (since 1858 special community Zons-Dormagen in the synagogue district of Neuss, 1932 synagogue community Dormagen). The size of the congregation was 24 in 1806 and 1835, 47 in 1885 and 42 in 1932.

The Jewish cemetery in Dormagen was first mentioned in writing in 1862, when the Jews in Dormagen tried to enclose the cemetery at the municipal council due to destruction. The oldest surviving tombstone dates from 1869. The last burial took place in 2000. Today 29 tombstones ( mazewot ) are still preserved in the cemetery.
