history
On February 23, 1861, the royal government in Cologne approved the creation of a Jewish cemetery for the Jewish community in Poppelsdorf , which was built far outside in what is now Hainstrasse in Endenich. In 1877 it was expanded and now had an area of 766 m² . Today there are still about 90 tombstones ( mazewot ). The last burial took place in 2000.
As early as 1896, the Jewish cemetery was desecrated and most of the gravestones were knocked over, and many of them broke. Further desecrations took place during the time of National Socialism .
