Jewish cemetery in Holten

The Jewish cemetery in Holten , today a district of Oberhausen in North Rhine-Westphalia , was built in 1714. The Jewish cemetery on Vennstrasse is a protected architectural monument .

The last burial took place in 1924. Until the end of the 19th century, the cemetery was also used by the Jews living in Bruckhausen , Hamborn and Marxloh .

The cemetery was devastated during the National Socialist era .

In the 1980s the cemetery was restored to a viewable condition. Today about 20 to 30 tombstones are still preserved, the oldest stone dates from 1759.
