Jewish cemetery (Otterstadt)
The Jüdische Friedhof Otterstadt is a Jewish cemetery in Otterstadt , a municipality in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . The cemetery is opposite the town's new Christian cemetery. The Jewish cemetery is a protected cultural monument .
history
The Jewish cemetery in Otterstadt was laid out after 1820 and occupied from 1828 to 1938. It served the Jewish communities in Otterstadt, Neuhofen , Rheingönheim and Schifferstadt as a burial place. The cemetery was expanded in 1840 and 1869. Now the Jews who died in Waldsee were also buried here. The cemetery has an area of 9.40 ares and today there are about 200 tombstones ( mazewot ). The cemetery is surrounded by a quarry stone wall, at the entrance there is a tiled entrance house.
