Jewish cemetery (Sternberg)

The Sternberg Jewish cemetery is located in Sternberg in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the north-western outskirts of the city on a hill, the "Judenberg". There are no more gravestones on the approximately 500 m² cemetery area on the edge of the forest between the Sternberg-Brüel railway line / embankment and the campsite there. A memorial stone erected in 1947 commemorates the cemetery .

history

The cemetery is at the foot of the so-called Judenberg . There, 27 Jews from Sternberg were murdered there in 1492 on the basis of false accusations (see Sternberg host-desecration trial ). The Jewish community in Sternberg was established in the second half of the 18th century, the cemetery was laid out in 1824 and was occupied until the 1920s. The cemetery was destroyed during the Nazi era . After 1947, the Jewish State Community had the site restored and a memorial stone placed .
