history

The dead of the Jewish community in Neustadt were initially buried in Hatzbach , a district of Stadtallendorf . In the years 1828/30 a separate Jewish cemetery was created. At that time, the city leased around 1200 m² to the Jewish community for an annual rent and provided for the enclosure with a hedge and the installation of a gate. The first burial in the cemetery took place on June 20, 1830. The deceased was Wolf Brandus from Neustadt. In the following years, the deceased Jews from Neustadt and Momberg were buried in the cemetery. After an expansion in 1907, the cemetery, which was occupied until 1938, was given its current size.
