Jürgen Baur (sports scientist)

Jürgen Baur (* 1943 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Born in Swabia , Baur studied German, history, educational science, sociology and sports science, including at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . After his time in Tübingen he worked scientifically at the Universities of Bayreuth and Paderborn .

Baur's habilitation thesis on "Body and Movement Careers", which was accepted at the University of Paderborn in 1987 , was awarded the Carl Diem plaque of the German Sports Association. He was head of the sports sociology / sports anthropology department at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Potsdam .

His main research areas included socialization and résumé research, sports clubs, volunteering in sport, youth sport, old age sport, canoeing, the person of the exercise leader and sport teacher, sporting careers, and talent search and promotion. He was one of the editors of the Handbook Motor Development .

After his scientific career, Baur published some travel reports.
