Jürgen Bischof (Turner)

Jürgen Bischof (born September 24, 1941 in Königsberg ) is a former German gymnast with 18 German championship titles and an Olympic participant.

In his last active years he was a member of the ETSV Gut-Heil in Itzehoe . The city of Itzehoe considered naming a sports hall in his honor.

Career

Jürgen Bischof holds a degree in business administration.

On March 15, 1969, his left Achilles tendon tore in a Bundesliga match of his new club Neckarsulm while doing floor exercises. During the operation in a Munich clinic by Alfred Nikolaus Witt , he suffered cardiac arrest due to an anesthetic error and did not wake up from the coma until months later. The Free State of Bavaria was sentenced to a monthly pension of DM 4,500. Since then he has been severely disabled and now lives in a retirement home in Krempe .

His father, Georg Bischof († January 2012), was the last East Prussian master in artistic gymnastics.

Bishop has two sons with his now divorced wife. In February 1974, the entertainer Peter Alexander donated DM 7,500 each to his sons as training aid, which he received as a fee for his appearance at the Ball des Sports .
