Jürgen Elstrodt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jürgen Elstrodt (born April 8, 1940 in Osnabrück ) is a German mathematician.

Elstrodt studied at the University of Münster and received his doctorate in 1970 at the University of Munich ( on the eigenvalue problem of automorphic forms in the hyperbolic plane in Fuchs groups of the second kind ). In 1974 he qualified as a professor at the University of Munich under Walter Roelcke (1928–2005) ( The resolvent on the eigenvalue problem of automorphic forms in the hyperbolic plane ). From 1974 he was scientific advisor and professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1976 he was professor of mathematics at the University of Münster. In 2005 he retired.

Among other things, he dealt with the analytical theory of automorphic forms and connections to hyperbolic geometry and number theory . Elstrodt wrote a well-known textbook on measurement and integration theory. He also deals with the history of mathematics, for example with Peter Gustav Lejeune Dirichlet , and wrote a history of mathematics at the University of Münster with Norbert Schmitz .
