Jürgen Ganz (born February 14, 1955 ) is a former German soccer player. In the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , he played for Halleschen FC Chemie and BSG Sachsenring Zwickau .

Athletic career

As a 20-year-old Jürgen Ganz started his career as a top division player in the match on the 23rd match day of the 1974/75 season between BFC Dynamo and Hallescher FC Chemie. When the score was 4: 0 for the BFC, he was substituted in the 46th minute and then experienced the 0: 8 defeat for Halle. He was actually a regular player in the 2nd team of the HFC, which he helped to advance from the district league to the second-rate GDR league . For the season 1975/76 Ganz was nominated for the league team, but played mostly in the GDR league team HFC II. Of their 22 league games, he played 17 games, was their top scorer with twelve goals and managed to win the season with the team. In the league he was used eight times at irregular intervals. He was only twice in the starting eleven as a striker and could not score a goal. For the 1976/77 season, Ganz was again included in the squad of the league team, but was not used in the point games. Instead, he played with the newly formed junior team in the newly introduced junior league .

In the summer of 1977, Ganz moved to the company sports community (BSG) Sachsenring Zwickau, which was also represented in the top division. Even there he could not gain a foothold in the first team, because in the 1977/78 season he only played three times in the league. Not until the following season did Ganz make his breakthrough. He was used continuously until the 16th league matchday and was always called up in midfield, while he also scored his first four goals in the league. He had to take a break for the rest of the season. For the 1979/80 season, the BSG Sachsenring got a new coach in Peter Henschel , who turned Ganz into a defensive player. After he had completed all 13 league games in the first half of the season, he injured himself again and was then only a substitute in seven games from matchday 20. In the 1980/81 season, Ganz was ordered by Henschel into the storm, where he was used in the first eight league games. After that, Ganz had to take a break and only played twice in the second half of the season. In May 1981 he was called up for military service in the National People's Army and did not return to higher-class football afterwards. In his short career he had made 57 league games and scored six goals. Added to this are the 17 GDR league games and 12 goals in the 1975/76 season.
