Jürgen Harten

Jürgen Harten (born September 24, 1933 in Hamburg ) is a German art historian . He was director of the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf .

Live and act

Harten studied education , anthropology and art history from 1953 to 1960 . From 1961 to 1967 he was a primary and secondary school teacher in Hamburg. In 1967 he became secretary of the 4th documenta in Kassel under Arnold Bode . From 1969 to 1972 he was a research assistant and deputy director of the Städtische Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and then, until 1998, its director.

From 1998 to 1999 Harten was founding director of the museum kunst palast Düsseldorf foundation . In 2003 he curated the exhibition “Berlin – Moscow / Moscow – Berlin 1950–2000” at the Gropius Bau and in 2006 the exhibition “Caravaggio” at the kunst palast .

Harten is a member of the Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art (AICA). Since 1980 he has been married to the Israeli exhibition organizer Doreet LeVitte-Harten for the second time .
