Jürgen Hasse

Jürgen Hasse (born September 8, 1949 in Hagen ) is a German geographer , educator and urban researcher . He was Professor of Geography and Geography Didactics at the Institute for Human Geography at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main .

Life

Jürgen Hasse studied teaching at elementary and secondary schools for geography, German and art. This was followed by legal clerkship and several years of work as a teacher at various secondary and secondary schools. Hasse then did his doctorate on "affective learning goals in geography lessons" and worked from 1982 to 1985 as a research assistant at the Geography Institute of the University of Oldenburg . From 1985 to 1993 he worked as a university assistant for educational science at the University of Hamburg . During this time he completed his habilitation with a thesis on "Geography and Postmodernism". From 1993 to 2015 he was a university professor for geography and its didactics at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

Hasse had and still has great influence on the further development of German human geography . Among other things, he introduced the term and the field of work of the atmosphere into German-speaking human geography and opened it up to the philosophical current of phenomenology . He has had a significant influence on German-language geographic urban research since the 1990s, with a focus on the relationship between aestheticization processes ( architecture , light , consumption ) and the spatial socialization of people.
