Jürgen Knaack (Germanist)

Jürgen Knaack (born March 12, 1946 in Rotenburg / Wümme ) is a German Germanist and journalist .

Life

From 1965 to 1973 Knaack studied German, German literature and art history at the University of Hamburg . He received his doctorate in 1973. From 1973 to 2003 he worked for the Hamburg publisher Gruner + Jahr . From 1973 to 1979 he helped set up the G + J press database. During this time he completed his training as a scientific documentary in Frankfurt / Main and gave numerous lectures on the development of the G + J press database. From founding the art magazine " art " in 1979 until autumn 2003, he worked there as a documentary journalist. During this time he wrote about 150 reviews and smaller articles for the magazine and built up an extensive art library. From 1990 to 1998 he was a member of the church council of the Schalom parish in Norderstedt and press spokesman during the 106 days of occupation of the parish by a group of refugees. Subsequently, volunteer in the care of refugees in Henstedt-Ulzburg and Norderstedt and co-editor of the magazine "New Neighbors" in Norderstedt. Parallel to his employment, Knaack worked as a journalist and literary scholar and was a. a. Co-editor of Achim von Arnim's works at Deutscher Klassiker Verlag . Since 1991 he has worked at the historical-critical Weimar Arnim Edition (WAA). In 1995 he and other Arnim researchers founded the International Arnim Society , of which he was treasurer until 2013. In 2005 he opened an Arnim memorial in Zernikow . Knaack has been married to Dörte, geb. Hermann and has two children and has lived in Henstedt-Ulzburg since 1978.
