Jürgen Richter-Gebert (born August 26, 1963 in Darmstadt ) is professor of mathematics at the Technical University of Munich .

Life

Richter-Gebert studied mathematics at the TU Darmstadt and obtained his doctorate in 1992 at both the TU Darmstadt and the KTH Stockholm (with Anders Björner ). After two years in industrial research and development laboratories, he moved to Günter M. Ziegler's group at the Technical University of Berlin in 1994, where he completed his habilitation in 1995. From 1997 to 2001 he was an assistant professor for theoretical computer science at the ETH Zurich . In 2001 he was appointed full professor for geometry and visualization at the Technical University of Munich .

The research focus of Richter-Gebert lies in the area of combinatorial, dynamic and computer-oriented geometry. In addition to work in the field of polytop theory, he is particularly interested in the “computer-compatible structuring of geometry”. In particular, he develops methods for the automatic generation of proofs of geometric theorems and works on the implementation of mathematical visualization programs .

In addition, Richter-Gebert is actively committed to communicating mathematics to a broader public. He is the founder and director of the ix-quadrat math exhibition at the Technical University of Munich, co-author of the math visualization program Cinderella (with Ulrich Kortenkamp ) and runs the Mathe-Vital internet portal. He is also significantly involved in the touring exhibition Imaginary .
