Anders Björner (born December 17, 1947 ) is a Swedish mathematician who deals with algebraic and topological combinatorics . He is a professor at the Royal Stockholm University of Technology .

Life

Björner received his doctorate in 1979 under Bernt Lindström at Stockholm University ( Studies in homological and combinatorial order theory ).

He was a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the 1980s .

In 1983 he received the George Pólya Prize with Paul Seymour . Since 1999 he has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

He was (until 2010) director of the Mittag-Leffler Institute and editor of Acta Mathematica .

Günter M. Ziegler and Jürgen Richter-Gebert are among his doctoral students .
