Life and research

After graduating from high school in Kerpen, Kortenkamp studied mathematics from 1989 to 1995 at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster with a minor in computer science with a diploma in mathematics. From 1995 to 1997 he was a research assistant at the TU Berlin with Günter M. Ziegler and then until 1999 research assistant at the ETH Zurich in the field of theoretical computer science with Jürgen Richter-Gebert , where he received his doctorate in 1999 with the dissertation Foundations of Dynamic Geometry . He then worked from 2000 to 2003 as a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin in the field of theoretical computer science with Günter Rote .

At the TU Berlin he was visiting professor until 2004 and then junior professor for didactics of mathematics until 2006. Afterwards he was professor for media informatics and its didactics at the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd until 2009 and until 2012 as the successor to Jochen Ziegenbalg professor for mathematics and its didactics at the PH Karlsruhe . As the successor to Wilfried Herget , he held the professorship for didactics of mathematics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg until 2014 and has been professor for didactics of mathematics at the University of Potsdam since 2014.

In 1998 he and Jürgen Richter-Gebert developed the dynamic geometry software Cinderella, which is based on the Java programming language . Since 2015 he has been editor of MathEduc and a member of the editorial board of Digital Experiences in Mathematics Education. His areas of work are in the areas of dynamic geometry systems, mathematics lessons and computer science, computer science didactics. In addition to his research on learning with digital tools in mathematics lessons at secondary and primary level, he has been leading the “Digital Learning Primary School” project in Potsdam since 2016, which is funded by the Deutsche Telekom Foundation at five locations.
