The Society for Didactics of Mathematics (GDM) is a scientific association with the aim of promoting the didactics of mathematics in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and to work together with corresponding institutions in other countries. It was founded in Saarbrücken in 1975 during the annual conference for didactics of mathematics. GDM Switzerland was founded in Zurich in 2014 and has since been an independent association under Swiss law with its own association statutes.

The GDM publishes an international scientific journal, the “Journal für Mathematik-Didaktik” (JMD), which appears twice a year, but is also available as an online edition. It also organizes an annual conference, which is an important conference for mathematics didactics in Germany.

The GDM is managed by a board of directors and an advisory board. There are numerous working groups within the GDM in which non-members can also participate.
