Family relationships

Hans-Georg Weigand is married to the educational scientist Prof. Dr. Gabriele Weigand .

Live and act

From 1971 to 1977 Weigand studied mathematics and physics for teaching at grammar schools at the University of Würzburg . After teaching at Bayernkolleg in Schweinfurt between 1979 and 1986, he was given leave of absence to teach at the University of Würzburg. On 16 June 1989 he was in mathematics education with Hans-Joachim Vollrath with the theme "Understanding iterations in mathematics education" doctorate . On June 26, 1992 , he completed his habilitation at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Würzburg with the subject of "Didactic considerations on the concept of consequences". After intermediate positions at the Universities of Eichstätt, Oldenburg and Gießen, Weigand held the chair for didactics of mathematics at the University of Würzburg on April 1, 2000. He has been a senior professor since the winter semester 2017. He is particularly interested in the use of new technologies with a view to developing conceptual understanding in teaching and learning mathematics. He has written and edited several books on the use of computers in mathematics classes, on the didactics of algebra and geometry, but also on art and football. He taught several guest semesters at the University of Illinois (USA) and the Western University of Australia (Perth). Weigand was chairman of the Society for Didactics of Mathematics (GDM) from 2007 to 2013 .
