Werner Blum

Werner Blum (born May 30, 1945 in Pforzheim ) is a German mathematician and university professor .

Life and research

Blum studied mathematics at the University of Karlsruhe from 1965 to 1969. After graduating, he was a research assistant there until 1972 and received his doctorate in mathematics under Heinrich-Wolfgang Leopoldt in 1970 with the dissertation: On non-Archimedean Banach algebras. Then he was a lecturer in mathematics at the University of Kassel (today: University of Kassel ) and from 1975 to 2013 professor for mathematics didactics there. In 2006 he received the Archimedes Prize of the German Association for the Promotion of Mathematics and Science Education (MNU). In 1984 he turned down an appointment at the University of Dortmund and was visiting professor at the University of Linz in 1985, 1989 and 1994. From 1883 to 1995 he was on the advisory board of the Society for Didactics of Mathematics , of which he was 1st chairman from 1995 to 2001.
