Rudolf vom Hofe (* 1955 ) is a German mathematician and university professor . He has been Professor of Mathematics and its Didactics at the Faculty of Mathematics at Bielefeld University since 2006.

Life and research

Von Hofe studied mathematics from 1973 to 1978 for teaching at grammar schools at the University of Kassel and passed the first state examination in 1978. After his legal clerkship at the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Homberg (Efze), he was a teacher at the Gustav-Stresemann-Gymnasium Bad Wildungen from 1981 to 1994 . From 1989 to 1994 he was seconded to the Department of Mathematics / Computer Science at the University of Kassel as a research assistant in the Werner Blum working group and received his doctorate in didactics of mathematics in 1994 with the dissertation: Basic concepts of mathematical content as a didactic model for theory and practice in mathematics teaching. He then worked as a research assistant at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Augsburg in Professor Lisa Hefendehl-Hebeker's group until 1999 . In 1997 he was visiting professor at the Mathematical-Technical Institute of the University of Aalborg (Denmark) and completed his habilitation in 1999 in didactics of mathematics at the University of Augsburg. From 1999 to 2006 he was Professor of Mathematics Didactics at the Mathematics Faculty of the University of Regensburg and since 2006 Professor of Mathematics and its Didactics at the Mathematics Faculty at Bielefeld University . Since 1995 he has been co-editor of the magazine “mathematik lehren” and since 1997 editor of the textbook series “Mathematik heute”. Since 2017 he has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Society for Didactics of Mathematics (GDM), of which he was 1st Chairman from 2013 to 2016.
