Ursula Viet (born July 23, 1926 in Bremen ; † April 18, 2010 ibid) was a German math teacher who was a professor at the University of Osnabrück .

From 1946 on, Viet studied mathematics, physics and philosophy at the University of Göttingen , the University of Tübingen and the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg with the 1st state examination in 1951. Afterwards she was trainee lawyer and from 1955 a student assistant professor in Bremen . From 1959 she taught mathematics didactics at the Osnabrück University of Education, where she became a professor in 1968. In 1971 she was on the founding committee of the University of Osnabrück, where she was full professor from 1973 until her retirement in 1993.

In particular, she dealt with empirical methods in mathematics teaching (systematic evaluation of teaching programs for mathematics teaching, development of standardized tests for the operational understanding of mathematics and cognitive level of development, models of teaching differentiation). She developed intervention programs and corresponding textbooks with which students can work through teaching content independently.

She was an honorary member of the Society for Didactics of Mathematics (GDM) and its vice-chairman from 1984 to 1990.

The Ursula Viet Foundation, which she founded in 1994, promotes empirical research in mathematics education.
