Jürgen Schnakenberg

Jürgen Schnakenberg (born September 7, 1937 in Bremen ) is a German physicist and professor emeritus for theoretical physics at RWTH Aachen University .

Jürgen Schnakenberg received his doctorate in 1962 under Friedrich Hund at the University of Göttingen on the subject of "About an approximation for lattice electrons in external fields". In 1969 he completed his habilitation there. From 1969 to 1971 he was a lecturer in Würzburg and Cologne . In 1972 he took over the professorship in Aachen until his retirement in 2002.

The focus of his scientific work is statistical physics far from thermodynamic equilibrium and biophysics . He has authored a number of textbooks on electrodynamics , quantum physics , statistical physics and biophysics. He has also published on the relationship between religion and the natural sciences .
