Jürgen Schweizer

Hans Jürgen Schweizer (born December 16, 1941 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German molecular biologist .

Life

Jürgen Schweizer studied chemistry from 1960 to 1966 at Heidelberg University . He did his doctorate at the German Cancer Research Center , where he then worked as a molecular biologist until 2007. Schweizer made a significant contribution to research into keratins . Among other things, he was involved in a restructuring of the keratins' nomenclature.

In his honor, the European Hair Research Society launched the Jürgen Schweizer Award in 2009, which annually honors an outstanding young researcher in the field of skin and hair research.

In addition, Schweizer is an active member of the Homo heidelbergensis von Mauer e. V. which is committed to promoting scientific research into Homo heidelbergensis and its environment. For the association he organizes a series of lectures on paleontological topics.
