Jürgen Seeher

Jürgen Seeher (born May 22, 1953 in Aachen ) is a German prehistorian .

From 1974 to 1983 Seeher studied prehistory , ethnology , folklore and Quaternary geology in Cologne, Frankfurt, Kiel and Berlin. In 1983 he received his doctorate from the Free University of Berlin with the thesis The ceramic from the Neolithic to the beginning of the Bronze Age from Demircihüyük and its position in Western Anatolia . From 1984 he was responsible for the evaluation and publication of the excavations in the predynastic settlement Maadi / Cairo . From 1989 to 2014 he was a consultant for early history and prehistory at the Istanbul Department of the German Archaeological Institute . After excavations in 1990–1991 in Demircihüyük-Sarıket in Turkey, he was the successor to Peter Neve from 1994 to 2005 in charge of the excavations in the Hittite capital Hattuša .

Seeher is a member of the German Orient Society and a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute. On February 20, 2015, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for his services to German archaeological research in Turkey .
