Jürgen Sekula (born May 2, 1958 in Bottrop ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Sekula played in the youth of Fortuna Bottrop and Rot-Weiss Essen . In 1976 he played in the A-youth, with which he moved into the final of the German A-youth championship. The final opponent was FC Schalke 04 . Sekula played in midfield alongside Frank Mill and scored the 1-0 lead in the 6th minute of the game against Schalke goalkeeper Peter Sandhofe . After that everything went against Essen, at the end of the game it was 1: 5 from Essen's point of view, Schalke were A-youth champions. Sekula stayed with the Essenes and made it into the 2nd Bundesliga . He made his debut in the 1979/80 season under coach Rolf Schafstall against Tennis Borussia Berlin . The game was won 2: 4 and Sekula contributed the 1: 3 in the 73rd minute of the game. In the following years he remained a substitute player, playing for Essen 36 times in the 2nd Bundesliga and scoring four goals. He later played for VfB Bottrop .

Sekula completed an administration apprenticeship during his time at Rot-Weiss Essen. He works for the city of Bottrop, at the registry office.
