Jāzeps Mediņš
Jāzeps Mediņš (born February 13, 1877 in Kaunas , † June 12, 1947 in Riga ) was a Latvian composer .
Life
Jāzeps Mediņš studied from 1889 to 1896 at the Riga Music Institute, which he directed from 1901 to 1911. He was also a conductor at the Latvian theater from 1906 to 1911. From 1916 to 1921 he worked as an opera conductor in Baku , from 1922 in Riga, where he was also professor of piano playing at the Conservatory from 1945 .
He composed two operas , three symphonies , two orchestral suites, a violin concerto , chamber music works, choral and organ works and more than a hundred songs .
His two younger brothers Jēkabs Mediņš (1885–1971) and Jānis Mediņš (1890–1966) were also well-known Latvian composers.
