from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klaus Beckmann (born December 6, 1935 in Wanne-Eickel ) is a German high school teacher , musicologist , church musician and university teacher .

biography

Klaus Beckmann studied philosophy , education and evangelical theology in Cologne , Bonn and Bielefeld , school music in Detmold and Cologne, musicology in Münster and Bochum (1975 Dr. phil. ).

From 1960 to 1998 he was a high school teacher (subjects: music and ev. Religion) in Wanne-Eickel, Recklinghausen and Gelsenkirchen (1979 director of studies ). From 1957 to 2005 he worked as choirmaster and organist in Wanne-Eickel and Recklinghausen. He was also active in church music training (leading C-courses). From 1986 to 1996, he held a teaching position for organ literature at the Detmold University of Music . He has lived in Herten since 1983 .

Act

After choral music editions ( Passions by Scandello , Beber ) Beckmann presented Buxtehude's complete works for organ in 1971/72 , with numerous deficits in tradition being able to be corrected. The same methodological approach (inner text criticism) was successfully applied to other composers of the Hanseatic organ baroque . Johann Gottfried Walther's important collections and letters as well as the life and work of Eichstätter Hofkapellmeister Joseph Meck were objects of further studies and editions. The Detmold teaching assignment gave rise to an inventory of the organ music documented worldwide from 1150 to 2000. The series “Masters of the North German Organ School” conceived by Beckmann documents almost completely all representative composers and their organ oeuvres in 36 volumes (Schott 2003–15), together with a two-volume overview of this era (“The North German School. Organ Music in Protestant North Germany [. ..], Part I – II ”). His journalistic work extends to over 180 publications.

1985 to 1997 he worked as a concert organist and moderator at the Recklinghausen spring organ concert series. From 2010 to 2012 he was involved in community education ( song catechesis with a corresponding piece of organ literature) in Marl.
