Signature J. Léauté Stockholm. 1810. on a miniature

J. Léauté was a French miniature painter who fled to Sweden during the French Revolution . From around 1790 to 1830 he was mainly active in western Sweden, especially in the Värmland region . He then returned to France. The resolution of the first name is not yet known.

The Swedish National Museum in Stockholm owns a miniature portrait of an unknown gentleman, signed by him and dated 1818. Another miniature portrait of an unknown gentleman, signed by him, is in the possession of the Cincinnati Art Museum .

  • Half-length portrait of Comtesse Charlotte Ulrike Catherine von Gertten, née Löwenhielm, painted in 1810 on the Apertin estate (near Karlstad ), inscribed "Léauté 1810.

Finnish state owned, Sinebrychoff Art Museum in Helsinki is located according to Mdme. Lemoine-Bouchard:

  • Miniature portrait of a young woman, signed "Léauté" and dated "1818" (S162).
